Talvez você saiba que a palavra “guru” é um antigo têrmo Védico.
Guru significa “aquele que dissipa a
escuridão”. Esta expressão – aquele que
dissipa a escuridão – é frequentemente usada sem uma compreensão mais
profunda. Esta escuridão realmente pertence
não somente ao estrato psíquico ou spiritual porém a todos os estratos da
existência humana.
Quer dizer, escuridão
existe em todos os três estratos – na esfera física materializada, na esfera
psíquica e na esfera espiritual. Portanto,
um guru necessariamente terá que ser capaz de remover a escuridão destes três
estratos.
Se ele ensinar o alfabeto
ou alguma matéria acadêmica a seus alunos, ele será nomeado como um professor –
professor no sentido acadêmico. E isso
não será suficiente.
Se, uma vez mais, ele
remover a escuridão de seu mundo psiquico, ele poderá compartilhar conhecimento
intelectual junto aos seus seguidores – e isso não será suficiente, da mesma
forma.
E se, finalmente, ele
dissipar a escuridão não somente de do estrato spiritual de seus discípulos...
– também não será suficiente.
O fato é que um guru – se
uma pessoa for realmente aceita como um real guru – terá que remover a
escuridão de todos os estratos do mundo físico, todos os estratos do mundo
psíquico e também todos os estratos do mundo espiritual.

Perhaps you know
that the word guru is a very old Vedic word. It means “one who dispels
darkness”. Now, this expression “one who dispels darkness” is often used
without deeper understanding. This darkness actually belongs not only to the
psychic stratum or the spiritual stratum, but to all strata of human existence.
That is, darkness prevails in all the three strata – in the crude physical
sphere, in the psychic sphere, and in the spiritual sphere. So a guru will
necessarily have to be able to remove darkness from all three strata. If he
teaches the alphabet or some academic matter to students, he will be called a
teacher – teacher in the academic sense. That will not do. If, again, he
removes darkness from the psychic world, he imparts intellectual knowledge to
his followers, that will not be enough either. And if, finally, he dispels
darkness only from the spiritual stratum of his disciples, that will not do
either. The fact is that a guru – if one is to be accepted as a real guru –
shall have to remove darkness from all the strata of the physical world, all
the strata of the psychic world, and also all the strata of the spiritual
world.
