“What Is Your Permanent Address?”
Um margi Filipino recentemente viajou até a Índia e escutou muitas histórias sobre Baba e como este poderia revelar vidas passadas das pessoas. Ele estava muito ansioso para saber sobre sua vida passado e por diversas vezes, expressou este desejo junto a seus amigos: Eu gostaria que Baba me mostrasse minha vida passada – ele costumava dizer.
Baba disse ao margi filipino: Mr. P: qual é seu endereço permanente?
Mr. P. respondeu: Manila, Baba
Baba, então disse, rindo: É mesmo? (e chamou um Dada – literalmente um irmão mais velho, um professor espiritual para se sentar e meditar). Uma pessoa comum encontra-se sob três ataduras: tempo, espaço e pessoa (1), porém Mahapurusa (a grande ser humano elevado através a prática da yoga) pode remover estas ataduras. (Baba abaixou-se e segurou o Dada por detrás de seu pescoço e lhe disse: Olhe para a mente de Mr. P e retorne a 135 anos atrás. O que você vê?
Dada: Eu vejo um homem alto usando um dhoti e kurta. (2)
Baba: Pode nos dizer quem é este homem?
Dada: Ele é um Brahman no oeste de Bengala (3). Seu nome é Shankara Mishra.
Baba: Sim, e hoje este homem é Mr. P. - Voltando-se para Mr. P., Baba disse: Qual é seu endereço permanente, caro rapaz? – Baba continuou, rindo: É Manila ou Índia?
Mr. P. respondeu: Não, Baba
Baba: Qual é então?
Mr. P.: O universo, Baba.
Baba: Sim, o universo é seu endereço permanente.
Notas: 1. Atadura de pessoa, significando que uma pessoa é confinada à uma propria personalidade; atadura de tempo, significando que uma pessoa não pode saber sobre passado, presente e futuro; atadura de lugar, significando que uma pessoa pode estar apenas em um lugar por vez.

[A Filipino Margi had recently come to India, and had heard many stories about how Bábá could reveal the past lives of individuals. He was very anxious to know his past life, and several times expressed this desire privately to his companions. “I wish Bábá would show me my past life,” he used to say.]
[Bábá said to the Filipino Margi:] Mr. P–, what is your permanent address?
[Mr. P–: “Manila, Bábá.”]
[Bábá said laughing:] Oh, is it so? [Bábá called one dádá (literally “elder brother”, a spiritual teacher) to sit and do meditation.] An ordinary person is under the three bondages of time, place and person.(1) But a mahápuruśa [a great human being elevated by the practice of yoga] can remove them. [Bábá reached down and held the dádá on the back of his neck. He said to the dádá:] Look into the mind of Mr. P– and go back 135 years. What do you see?
[Dádá: “I see a tall man wearing a dhoti and kurtá.”(2) ]
Can you tell who he is?
[Dádá: “He is a Brahman(3) in West Bengal. His name is Shankara Mishra.”]
Yes, and today that man is Mr. P–. [To Mr. P–:] What is your permanent address, my boy? [laughingly] Is it Manila or India?
[Mr. P–: “No, Bábá!”]
What is it then?
[Mr. P–: “ The universe, Bábá.”]
Yes, the universe is your permanent address.

Human beings come onto this earth for a very short period
Os seres humanos vêm até a Terra por um curto período de tempo e devem completar tudo durante este curto período. Portanto, existe um mundo de trabalhos a serem feitos e o tempo é bem curto. Sendo assim, pessoas inteligentes fazem o possível para usar da melhor forma cada momento de suas vidas – a perda de tempo é o mais alto grau de idiotice. Nenhum ser humano na Terra permanecerá por muito tempo e a verdadeira meta da vida humana é alcançar a Suprema Instância.
Os seres humanos, enquanto caminhando em direção à meta que está fixada anteriormente em suas mentes, terão que realizar muitos trabalhos inter-relacionados.
E é por esta razão que dissemos: mantenham uma mão aos pés de Parama Purusa (a Entidade Suprema) e a outra mão nos trabalhos/assuntos mundanos. Deixem que a mente esteja constantemente voltada para Parama Purusa (a Entidade Cósmica).
E, enquanto estiverem praticando os trabalhos/assuntos mundanos, não se esqueçam jamais de que estes trabalhos/assuntos também são voltados para Parama Purusa (a Entidade Cósmica).

Human beings come onto this earth for a very short period, and within this short period they are required to complete everything. So there is a great deal of work to be done, but the time is very short. Thus intelligent people make the best use of every moment of their time – wasting one’s time is the height of foolishness. No human being on this earth will remain for long, and the very goal of human life is to attain the Supreme Stance. Human beings while moving forward towards that Goal which is fixed before their minds, will have to perform many interrelated works. That is why it is said, Keep one hand on the feet of Parama Puruśa,(Cosmic Entity) and with the other hand do your mundane duties. Let the mind be constantly attached to Parama Puruśa,(Cosmic Entity) . And while performing one’s mundane duties one should always remember that these duties are also the task of Parama Puruśa,(Cosmic Entity) .
